Optimizing signal cycle and split times

You can optimize the cycle times and green times of signal controllers (Fundamentals: Signal time optimization of single signal controllers).

The procedure optimizes the set signal program of signal controllers at signalized nodes, whose method for calculating the impedance is Node impedance calculation (ICA). The set signal program numbers must have a valid value, otherwise the signal controller is considered to be switched off. Optimization is performed according to the optimization method set at the signal controller. The optimization automatically includes all nodes to which the signal controller is assigned for the calculation.

Notes: Prior to optimization, you can check the network's viability for ICA (Checking the network and fixing errors).

1.  Make sure the required input attributes for this procedure are correct (Fundamentals: Data model for signal cycle and split optimization).

2.  On the toolbar, click the  Open 'Procedure sequence' window button.

The Procedure sequence window opens.

3.  Select the desired position and add the procedure Signal cycle and split optimization from the Assignments category to the given sequence of procedures.

4.  Select the desired design hourly volume for the optimization.

Element

Description

Use global design hourly volume

If the option is selected, the global design hourly volume set under Calculate > General procedure parameters > PrT settings > Node impedances is used for optimization.

Use design hourly volume from attribute

If the option is selected, specify a numerical turn attribute for the optimization, which is multiplied by the specified factor. Select the factor so that the design hourly volume is defined as hourly volume in PCU.

Note

If there are main turns, the selected attribute must also exist for main turns so that the optimization can be performed.

5.  Confirm with OK.

The signal cycle and split optimization is executed.

Notes: The intergreen matrix for signal groups is always taken into account. If this is empty, the value of the signal control attribute Default intergreen applies.

Alternatively, you can also execute the signal cycle and split optimization for a single node or several selected nodes (Optimizing signal cycles and split of a single signal controller and Updating impedances at nodes).
